BIO FOR CRYPTO

Michael Jackson is a lifelong technologist, passionate about the digital economy’s power to fundamentally change value chains, eliminate inefficiencies, and redistribute wealth. Actively involved in crypto since 2013, Michael is a strategic advisor across top companies including Blockchain.com, popular protocols, and European crypto funds. Michael’s multi-decade career as an engineer turned operator has enabled him to be a critical conduit between the old and new financial worlds, serving as the only executive to be on the board of both a traditional bank and a crypto bank. An early crypto evangelist, Michael developed one of the first NFTs “Wen Lambo” which was recently on display at Christie’s. When he's not in pursuit of the ideal use case for blockchain technology, he’s developing governance for new cryptos and helping teams build viable businesses for this new financial system. After a multi-decade career in automotive, financial, consumer and telecom, Michael is a seasoned executive currently serving as a Board Director for a number of Europe’s most influential companies. A lifelong technologist, Michael is dedicated to modernizing the systems - automotive, financial to telecom - that impact people’s daily lives.

Michael Jackson is board member of two of the world’s best known companies :Volvo Cars, AXA Insurance, the largest systemic local bank in the Baltics, Luminor  and has held board roles at two of the world’s leading software companies : Blockchain and Kneip Communications. 

 

He reached these positions after a career transforming the communications industry, first as a senior executive in Tele2, Europe’s leading alternative operator, and then as Chief Operating Officer at Skype in its formative years, creating its business model followed by ten years as an investor, company builder and fund manager as a Partner at Mangrove Capital Partners in Luxembourg - one of the top decile performers in the European Venture Capital industry.

As well as big ideas, Michael searches for the passion, drive and ambition in a team, and a genuine reason why they believe they can be a leader in their sector. He uses his previous experience in fast-growing environments to help companies scale and develop their activities in a world where changes are happening faster and deeper than ever before.

Working with regulators allowed Michael to change the legal framework of the phone industry, and thereafter create the world's first MVNO - an industry now worth tens of billions.  Architecting systems that rethink the hardware and software stack allow new businesses to thrive for minimal capital expenditure

Michael has been a thought leader in VC and the new world of Blockchain, a regular media commentator on BBC, CNBC, FT and Bloomberg, and has authored reports on Cryptocurrency subjects. He continues a strong belief in the future of distributed ledger technologies where they are appropriate.  His position as a Director of Blockchain.com, the leading consumer wallet supplier, gives insights into the past and future of cryptocurrencies, and direct involvement with both the challenges and opportunities of the industry

After 15 years living in Denmark, Michael now lives in Luxembourg, but travels every week and weekend around Europe meeting innovative operators. Michael graduated with honours from University College London with a degree in Communications Engineering  followed by a Graduate Trainee program at the BBC.
